Ramadan Reading: The Seerah

Over time, I have realised that it is very difficult to retain everything I learn from one source upon completing it once. This realisation has benefited me in two ways. Firstly, it lifted a weight from my mind and heart as I allowed myself to read without the burden of trying to remember everything I learnt or the guilt when I forgot things not long after. Secondly, it changed the way I approached topics of interest; instead of just reading one book, I try to find different books and other resources, like documentaries or podcasts, in the same field and patiently build up my knowledge in a way that is sustainable and more likely to stick.

At the moment, alhamdu Lillah, I have found this book and two short video series related to the Seerah (the life of the Prophet, peace be upon him) to be a pleasant combination. None of them are individually taxing or massively time-consuming, but as I go through each one, I am already finding reflections of the others and this is an encouraging and rewarding experience, alhamdu Lillah.

– Book: The Simple Seerah, Part One by Asim Khan and Toyris Miah. The seerah written for a teenage target reader and in a more creative, story style.
– Youtube series: Within the SÄ«rah by Qalam Institute. 4-5 minute videos focusing on key aspects of the seerah.
– Youtube series: Builders of a Nation by Jannah Institute. 8ish minute videos telling the stories of significant women in the history of Islam.
